Is Shingles Contagious?
The shingles is closely related to chickenpox and is even more irritating. Before investigating whether or not the shingles is contagious you should first make yourself aware of the symptoms to begin with. The symptoms of the shingles are as follows:
• A sudden decline in energy and sometimes a feeling of drowsiness
• A fever for two to five days with a headache
• Digestive system and stomach problems
• Persistent itching on the skin
• The development of blisters on the skin
These are some of the symptoms. There are categories of people who are at risk the most and where it is likely to be more contagious. The categories are:
• Anyone who has had chickenpox in the past
• Anyone with a weak immune system or underline health issues
• Persons who are aged 50 and above
• Any person who is taking medications that could cause complications or a reaction
Shingles is a contagious virus in some circumstances. If you do not fit into any of the categories above you probably will not experience any difficulties. A virus called VZV that is the cause of chickenpox and shingles can spread via direct contact to a healthy person with open wounds etc from a person who has currently got the shingles virus. It is important, therefore, to keep any wounds well protected from germs and infections. Someone who is healthy can never catch the shingles through little or no physical contact; the virus is not air born and cannot even be transmitted by coughing and sneezing.
There are many things that you can do to stop the spread if you have the shingles. These are as follows:
• Abide by the treatment program set out by your doctor
• Do not scratch the rash
• Try not to come into contact with any sunlight and ideally stay in a cool room
