Shingles Cure

A shingles cure that is guaranteed to work does not exist. There are, however, many treatment options available that can help lessen the problem and prevent the condition from getting any worse than it already is. The treatment options available are as follows:

•  Pain medicines and topical pain to stop any long term pain

•  Antiviral medicines to prevent the pain and lessen the time of infection

•  Home remedies and off the counter products

Once it has been confirmed by your doctor that you have shingles then the treatment will begin with the antiviral medication. If you can manage to start this treatment with 48 hours if the shingles rash developing, you are in a good position and probably will not have any later problems. The sooner the treatment begins the better. If you delay treatment of shingles then you could end up developing postherpetic neuralgia which will be very painful and could even render much of the treatment ineffective. The antiviral medication that your doctor will provide to you is acyclovir, famciclovir, or valacyclovir which will reduce the pain of the shingles. He/she will also provide topical antibiotics that you can apply direct to the affected area of the skin. This will stop any infection of the blisters and if you are not provided this then you can find a suitable product in a local drug store. If the pain of the infection lasts for more than a month after the shingles rash heals you will most likely be diagnosed with postherpetic neuralgia. This is the most common problem of shingles and is also very painful and can cause constant pain for a long time. However, all is not lost; postherpetic neuralgia can be treated to a degree. This can be done by using the following:

•  Topical anesthetics

•  Anticonvulsant

•  Antidepressant medication

•  Opioids
